New Staff Profiles: Dr. Mishler

By Laura Martens

Dr. Mishler is the Central DeWitt School District’s new Superintendent. She is excited to get acquainted with our school district and community.

Q: What is your spirit animal and why?

A: “A monkey because.. I like to have fun and it just seems like monkeys have fun, right? They’re playful and inquisitive and also when you see pet monkeys at the zoo they’re always pestering each other; kind of a little ornery, that’s a better word for it.”

Q: What made you want to come to our school district this year?

A: “The first time that I visited DeWitt it just instantly felt a great fit and everybody that I talked to that had worked here, that had lived here, gone to school here, visited here spoke about the incredible community, the wonderful district and I wanted to be a part of it.”

Q: Did you have any other school related jobs before becoming a superintendent?

A: “I started as a teacher and a coach. From there I went into leading professional development so I was in a teacher leadership position. Then I was an assistant high school principal and a curriculum director and then a superintendent last year.”

Q: What are your goals for the year?

A: “My goals for the year are to get to know as many people as possible and that’s everybody; students, staff, parents, community and really learn the Saber ways.”

Q: What would you say a typical day looks like for you after school hours?

A: “I have four daughters and so after school hours look like driving them around to all the activities that they’re involved in and taking in as many Saber activities as we can as a family.” “We are just starting to get into dance, soccer, swimming, and gymnastics. We’ve been to the football events, we have other events like that on our radar as well. Also just continuing to get settled into our house, our neighborhood, community; last weekend we visited every park that we could find in town, we tried to do it in one day but we spread it out over a couple because mom got tired.”

Q: What is something you would want students to know about you?

A: “That I love being a part of the experience that they have as students and (I’m) eager to understand that experience better and make it the absolute best it can be.”

Q: What are three words to describe your high school self?

A: “I would say ambitious, outgoing, and quirky.”
