Do you make New Year's resolutions? Maybe you see them as a waste of time or as an opportunity to make a “new you.” If you aren’t sure, finding some ideas for goals for the new year coming up can be a great idea!

New Year's resolutions are a common tradition to set goals or embrace a new mindset. It is called New Year's resolutions so you make your resolutions before the new year starts. Some people think of it as leaving old habits behind to create a new self.

Making these resolutions isn’t for everyone. A common reason for this is people believe they can’t or won’t follow through with their ideas, they’ll forget about it, or use it as an excuse to make unrealistic goals. Starting a project is easy, but it can be hard to find the willpower to go through with it and finish it.

Do you plan on making resolutions but are annoyed by not knowing what to do? Here are some ideas to start your year off with a better vision of yourself in mind!

Working out/yoga

Exercise is never a bad idea. Maybe you want to lose weight or define your muscles. Working out is almost the #1 thing people say they want their resolution to be. Something not so intense but still good for your mind and body is yoga. It is common to use as an everyday practice to keep yourself healthy without having to get sweaty. It’s never too late to start!

Healthy eating habits

Saying no to fast food and treats is another great way to improve your health. Not only in the present time but for your future body. If this is something you have in mind, you will need to do research on what diet you want, what foods to eat, water intake, and other things you would like to be informed about.

Start a scrap journal

A scrap journal can also be known as a junk journal. It is a place to collect random things to hold your memories. It can also be a fun way to express yourself creatively and to just have fun! Something to start as an easy and fun hobby!

Sleep schedule

Waking up tired every morning or sleeping too much is a problem that many people experience daily. Just because an energy drink a day can temporarily fix it, doesn’t mean you should have it every day! An easy solution would be to make a sleep schedule that you can follow comfortably and easily to keep up with it.

Being in the moment

It’s so easy to be sucked in by technology and social media. Taking time off devices and spending time outside or with friends and family is a good

way of resetting yourself. Being in the moment can benefit you in the long run; it helps you to enjoy what you have and be grateful.

Surrounding yourself with positive people

When surrounding yourself with the right people you tend to become happier and more positive about life. It can be easy to get into toxic relationships with people and not know how to tell if you should stay or leave. Starting out the new year with not only a new you but new people too.

Reading

Whether you like to read or have never picked up a book, it’s always a good time to introduce yourself to it. If you aren’t sure where to start, try finding genres you might enjoy and pick out a few possible options for your books! If you already like to read, try setting a goal for how many books you want to read by next year.

Money habits

Shopping sprees can be the best, but not for your wallet. Putting limits on what you are spending money on could be your next goal. If you want to spend your money, work on slowly working your way up by putting money away instead of being hasty.

Collecting something new

Finding things you want to collect can be a fun hobby and a way to express yourself. Common things could be rocks, can tabs, flowers, coins, photos, music, and more. Making a multimedia scrapbook is a way to collect things and keep them organized while incorporating art into it.

Improving a skill

Being mediocre at something in life is normal amongst any age group. Why start something new when you could improve something you already know? If you are sick of saying, “I wish I were better at ___,” then it’s time to put in the work to get there.

Learn a new language

Thinking of traveling, having better work opportunities, or just wanting to have fun? There are so many sources to learn a new language, right at the tips of your fingers. All you need is hard work and passion and by the time you know it, you’ll be speaking any language you please!

If you don’t want to make resolutions or goals, think of making a “vision board.” It’s not necessarily a goal, but an idea to help you create a “new you.” It is a vision of your future self with no rush and can be done at your own pace. You can get as simple or specific as you want.

Anything can be a resolution if you want it to be. Remember that making these goals isn’t for anybody else but yourself. It is a time to grow and become a better version of yourself, whatever that may look like. When setting goals for ourselves, we tend to overwhelm our minds with unrealistic ideas. If you have many ideas, then start off with a few simple ones, and gradually add more complex ones. It shouldn’t be something you stress about, but something exciting and fun. Having an idea of what you want is great, but actually going through with it is a challenge. An easier way to tackle this is to not just make a goal, but incorporate how you will achieve it and what you will look like when the goal is accomplished.

Any idea, goal, or resolution is a journey. So create the path that fits and will benefit your future. Don’t let the process overwhelm you, whatever you may decide to do. It’s important to focus on how much progress you make instead of how perfect you are. So enjoy your journey and have fun!
