Every day, you walk past the office and see the women inside, maybe you even stop to talk to them. The women working in our high school office are Renee Mier and Rachel Grager. Relatively new to the faculty roster, they were interviewed to see what it is like to work in the Central DeWitt High School office.
Unlike the repetitive daily schedule for students, our office women go into their day expecting a unique experience, “For me, every day is different. So that keeps an interest!” Rachel said.
They’re humored by calls from home for why students are excused from school. “[a student] had to get the cows put away. That’s honest! But it’s kind of funny,” Renee said giggling while Rachel answered the ringing phone.
The best part of their week is interacting with students and faculty. Having students working in our office and seeing teachers pass through has given Renee and Rachel the opportunity to build strong relationships with faculty, “We get to know the teachers on a different level than a parent,” Renee stated.
Renee shared how she assists the principal and teachers, “Any time they need help finding a student we help them, all the way down to helping organize meetings.” Rachel added to the everyday tasks saying, “Calling students down here, following up on things, trying to make sure kids are where they’re supposed to be.”
“I'm definitely tired at the end of the day every day, but it’s good. I enjoy working with the teachers and everybody in the school district… I’m tired in a good way like I’ve done a lot,” Rachel said with Renee in agreeance.
“I’m not as cool as I thought I was,” Renee and Rachel said laughing as a half-joke when asked about self-discovery. Patience and sympathy are the most important traits they learned they possess when working with students.
When visiting the office, don’t feel intimidated or nervous around the kind and humorous duo. Next time you see them, be sure to send your gratitude towards them for all the hard work they do for our school!
